Project overall aims

The research and rehabilitation of children gait apparatus in cross-border areas. The analysis of components influence on pathology level. An assessment the diagnostics and treatment methods used in Poland and in Grodno. The common elaboration of prophylactics, diagnostics, and rehabilitation of children gait apparatus. Generalization the information about dysfunction of children gait apparatus. The aim of the generalization is coordination between different institutes. The breaking of children gait dysfunction and improvement of children apparatus. The experiences exchange is according with priorities 2.1 PS P-B-U Interreg IIIA/Tacis CBS 2004-2006

Project immediate objective(s)

The researchers and scientists integration from Poland and Belarus. The aim of this integration is analysis of pathology level of children from both Poland and Belarus. The determining of components, which have influence on children level pathology. The elaboration of prophylactics, diagnostics and rehabilitation methods. An organization of active cooperation between scientists, medical doctors, and pedagogies. The aim of this cooperation should be compensation the diagnostics and rehabilitation quality.

Cross-border impact

The aim of this project is cooperation and partnership between Poland and Belarus. Moreover cooperation between project's institutes allows integrating scientists from Podlasie area and Grodno area. Technology, experiences, and results obtained by Polish and Belarus scientists will be exchange each other. The cooperation will possible exchange of information about geographic, structural, and social conditions also. Finally integration between project's participants will improve patients activity.

Results of the project

In the course of fulfilling the project and solving problems a number of results in practical, scientific and social spheres were obtained.

Practical results.
SSI "RCRSP NAS of Belarus" renders licensed assistance for the population of Grodno region in manufacture of individual orthopedic insoles and schedules to obtain a license on conducting orthopedic investigations. To raise the quality and simplify accessibility within the frameworks of the project certain works were fulfilled on updating orthopedic consulting room consisting in repair of the room, purchase of the office and medical furniture, development, manufacture and purchase of biomechanical measuring equipment. Some amendments were made in the engineering design and manufacturing process of individual orthopedic insoles.
Two series of biomechanical investigations on the children in Grodno region were conducted within the frames of the project. The orthopedists participating in the project have made diagnoses based on the first stage of examination of the children and have prescribed therapeutic treatment, including the treatment using orthopedic insoles of domestic manufacture.
The data of investigation results present the material dir further analysis. The investigation results are stored in a specially designed database employed jointly by two groups of scientists participating in realization of the project.
The second series of investigations has made grounds for tracing positive dynamics of foot dysfunction therapeutics and improvement of life quality for 45 children.

Scientific results.
The analysis of biomechanical data and methodologies used for this purpose has enabled to elaborate a software, measurement means as well as scientific models and theories.
Design documents have been developed to launch production of the photoplantograph along with a software for processing photoplantographic images of foot planta and an experimental model of the photoplantograph has been put in production.
To optimize surgical operation on Achilles' tendon a model has been developed of a stochastic structure of cross-sectional parts of the tendon and their fixing on the calcaneal tuber. The model helps to vary both size and form of fiber bundles, and the degree of filling matrix medium by said bundles.
A model has been developed to describe the biped gait in a phase space of step parameters based on the analysis of pedobarometric information. A problem has been solved on the elastic deformation of the bearing damping part in area of longitudinal arch of the orthopedic insole propping against edges without a support.

Social results.
The procedures have been executed for transport relationship between scientific teams from both sides, namely, exchange of data, research methods and equipment (transportation of equipment bought within the project frames via the border Poland-Belarus on a car), and preparation of joint publications.
Two joint monographs have been issued, as well as Conference Proceedings, scientific papers and abstracts.
Essays and articles have been published in popular press to popularize aims of the project and biomechanical knowledge among Belarussian people.
The booklet devoted to the project results has been disseminated in 80 research, educational and medical establishments. Together with two main cooperating in the project organizations, some other specialists from the staff of hospital, medical, engineering and classical universities as well as design bureau have took part in the project works. Traveling events in two infant schools have been conducted along with scheduled investigations on the base of orthopedic consulting room. The events included a lecture, children's training in gymnastics and examination aimed at early case detection of plantar pathology.
The first International Biomechanical Conference held in the region has promoted further progress in this scientific trend within the scientific communities of Belarussian and Polish regions, and intensified relations between the colleagues from Russia, Canada, Belgium, and Ukraine. The principle of obviousness has been observed during the project. The European Union symbols and indication of the source of financing were located:
- on the front of the building housing the conference;
- at the entrance to the conference and the rooms SSI "RCRSP NAS of Belarus";
- on displays over Grodno city;
- on purchased equipment;
- in published scientific and mass press.
